DEACON & CONGREGATIONAL CARE

Click for Detailed Session Information

We are here for you! Please let us know if you need any of the services mentioned below or if you have gifts in these areas and would like to use to bless the congregation!

Deacons are ordained by the church for the care of the congregation and provide services such as meals through Martha Ministries, rides through the Chariots of Care, and memorial receptions. Deacons also deliver flowers from worship services to folks in the community, and work with the pastors to take communion to members who are homebound, and organize the Giving Tree during the Christmas season for families in need. The deacons maintain a database of durable medical equipment stored in homes, available for use by the congregation. Deacons also send cards, call, and make visits to those who are homebound, and share prayer requests by way of the prayer chain. Deacons work closely with the pastors to care in all these ways for the members of the congregation.

Pastoral Visitors are commissioned by the congregation based on their gifts and specially trained to be first responders to many of the needs that come to the attention of church staff. They are trained to respond to emergency and unforeseen situations including care of the dying and their families. Pastoral Visitors meet regularly with the pastors for continuing education, supervision, and support.

Visiting Friends is a ministry to reach out to those in our church who are limited in their mobility and unable to attend the activities of the church. Visiting Friends will be paired with a member that they agree to visit, call, and send a card to once a month for as long as it works out for both the member and Visiting Friend, or until the need is resolved. Visiting Friends are an important contact and comfort to may members who are alone.

Care Contacts are a network of volunteers from the small groups that exist in the congregation. These Care Contacts provide a first response to those in their group, communicate any concerns to the Deacons and church staff, and serve as contact for information that may come to the church staff first. The Care Contacts have been providing excellent first line care to many in the congregation.

 marthamin

Is a Deacon led ministry that provides support to families and individuals by delivering meals during an illness, death, birth, hospital stay, surgery recovery, or other significant life-events.

What a comfort and blessing it is to receive a meal, when the last thing you can think about is preparing one! This service is provided to members of the FPCL community and can last for as long as needed by the individual or family.

To Help: Martha’s Ministry has a group of dedicated volunteers ready to help, but we are always looking for new volunteers. Volunteering would include preparing and delivering meals to individuals or families during an illness or crisis.

Get Involved: If you are interested in adding your name to the list, please email Deacon Victor Karpenko, viktor@pacbell.net or call him, 925-872-4923.

  • Once you contact Victor, he will add you to the list of volunteers

  • When there is a request for meals you are sent an email with a link

  • Once there you will find available dates to select, along with any special dietary needs requested.

  • Select one or as many as you would like to provide for.
