Latest Mission News

This month, in addition to the monthly Grocery Outlet, 99 Cents Store, Safeway and McDonalds cards, FPCL's Mission & Service also supplied the homeless with much needed men's and ladies underwear, flashlights, and Cup O' Noodles soups.
Donna McKenzie who works with the Livermore Homeless Refuge recently experienced the following encounter while giving food to those in need: "brought food to family living in car. I gave young boy box his favorite, Cheerios and he was eating them out of the box while I talked to his family. He suddenly looked at me and said, “where do you live?” and before I could say anything, he said, “this is where I live. Do you live in your car?”……humbling….about six years old."

Volunteer Opportunity

Volunteers are needed to help once a month (or more if desired) with the laundry ministry at Asbury United Methodist Church on East avenue in Livermore. There are three washers and three dryers. Guests run their own laundry, while volunteers assist as necessary and ensure the machines are used appropriately and all rules are followed.
The laundry operates every Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday from 12-4pm. One volunteer is needed each day during those hours.
This ministry is a collaboration between Asbury and Unitarian Universalist Church in Livermore (UUCiL), with Asbury providing the facility and UUCiL providing the volunteers.

For more information please contact the volunteer coordinator, Jacky Poulsen at 925-980-5754.

New Families Arriving and in need of household items

The Refugee Services Committee of FPCL, in partnership with Jewish Family Community Services, helped to settle an Afghan family of four in Concord at the end of April. This was a blessing and a joy for all involved!

They are in need of:

    • Gift Cards (Safeway, Visa, Amazon)

If you can help, please follow this link to an Amazon wish list set up by Jewish Family Community Services. The items will be delivered directly to their Concord office for distribution to incoming families.

If you would like a receipt for your purchase, you can email the donation coordinator at JFCS: Wendy Greenberg

If you have a passion for serving and are interested in participating in a project, contact us - we would love to have your help.

Our Mission & Service Team responds to the reality that we are all called to serve. By prayerfully discerning opportunities for our members and friends to invest the resources of our time and our church’s money, the Mission and Service Team’s goal is to make a difference in our community and our world.  We support local, national and international agencies that provide services to people of all ages. Our team develops partnerships and opportunities to serve with local organizations as well as distributing funds from FPCL's Mission budget.

Our Mission is to support FPCL in the expression of faith through ministry and service to those in need within our community. We do this to live out our church's value that we are "not a place where, but a people who...". We organize direct service projects where those in our congregation can participate in helping others. Our work also supports established groups and organizations focusing on the homeless, working poor, and others needing a hand
