Livermore Homeless Refuge
Our church has partnered with several churches in Livermore to be a part of the Livermore Homeless Refuge. FPCL is the weekend location for the refuge when the weather conditions are projected to drop below 40 degrees and/or rain is expected.
Hello Friends! With the weather growing colder, the Livermore Homeless Refuge is open again this year and First Presbyterian Church Livermore is hosting weekend guests through April 2012, as needed.
I supported this organization last winter by dropping off hot meals twice monthly and it was an extremely rewarding experience for our entire family. Jack(7) and Will(5) helped me cook the lasagna during the day and they helped deliver the meal to the church, including dragging our bags of bread, fruit and cookies past the line of guests waiting to get in out of the cold. Providing a hot meal to men and women of our community that would otherwise go hungry that night without our efforts, was a concrete, measurable, example of giving back that even my otherwise self-absorbed children could understand. Beyond the preparation, it took only 15 minutes to drive to the church at 4th St. and K St. and drop off my meal. It was almost too easy and my boys really enjoyed the process.
I encourage you to consider how you might be a part of this opportunity to support our local community.
